Cold brew coffee doesn’t have to be something you pay a lot for. In fact, you can make it at home with only two ingredients! Better yet, you don’t need any special equipment. If you find yourself buying cold brew coffee often and want to save a bit of money, try making it yourself. I think you’re going to like it!
During the summer, I don’t know about you, but drinking hot coffee is not something that sounds like a good time. Don’t get me wrong, hot coffee is great when it’s cold out, but I’m not for it in the summer. So, what’s a girl to do? Enter cold brew coffee. I first heard about cold brew a few years ago and it’s been a love of mine ever since. It’s one of my favorite drinks to order at a coffee shop, but I like to save money and make things for myself. I was shocked at just how easy making your own cold brew is, and even better, you don’t need any special equipment!

WHAT IS COLD BREW COFFEE?
Cold brew coffee is simply coffee that has been made by steeping coffee grounds in cold water for an extended period of time. Iced coffee, on the other hand, is coffee that is brewed hot and then chilled. Cold brew, because it’s made with a higher ratio of coffee grounds to water than traditional coffee, is a coffee concentrate. That means it’s stronger and a little goes a long way! My recipe is easy to make and takes only a few minutes!
TOOLS YOU MAY NEED
- Two 32 oz mason jars with lids or two pitchers with lids
- Fine mesh strainer or a coffee filter
- Spoon
HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE COLD BREW COFFEE
- In a 32 oz mason jar or pitcher, add in 1/2 cup of your favorite ground coffee and 3 1/2 cups of filtered water (or fill it to the top).
- Add a lid to the jar and refrigerate overnight, or for 12-18 hours
- Using a fine mesh strainer or coffee filter, strain the cold brew into a clean jar or pitcher.
- Add a lid back onto the jar and keep it in the refrigerator up to a week!
HOW TO ENJOY COLD BREW COFFEE
When you’re ready to drink your cold brew, I wouldn’t recommend pouring yourself a full glass. Because this is a concentrated form of coffee, you’ll probably want to dilute it before consuming. Here’s how I like to enjoy cold brew:
- Add ice to your favorite glass (I like to use a 16 oz mason jar).
- Fill the glass 1/3 of the way with cold brew concentrate.
- Add filtered water to the top, making sure to leave enough room for creamer, if desired.
- Add in your sweeteners, flavors and/or creamer of choice and stir.
- Now you’re ready to enjoy a delicious, cold brew coffee!
MY FAVORITE ADD-INS
- Heavy whipping cream or half & half
- Oat milk
- Maple syrup
- Torini caramel syrup
- Swerve
- Whipped cream topping
NOTES
- You can halve, double, triple, etc. this recipe to meet your needs!
- Cold brew should be brewed for a minimum of six hours, but is best when brewed longer.
- Fresh beans that are coarsely ground are best, but any ground coffee will do!
- I like to filter my cold brew twice just to ensure I remove all the grounds.
- Cold brew is freshest when drank within one to two days, but is good for up to five or so when stored in the refrigerator.
