**UPDATED AUGUST 25, 2023**
Since September 1st, I’ve been ready for all things fall, which of course includes pumpkin spice everything. Some don’t understand the hype and I totally get it. For years, I never really cared for pumpkin except for maybe one slice of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving once a year. But something changed for me a few years ago, and now I LOVE it!
I’m so excited to make homemade pumpkin puree this year. A friend of the family is growing lots of pumpkins that we’ll be able to harvest and take for ourselves! Somehow I’ve never been to an actual pumpkin patch, so I’m really looking forward to it! I think my kids will enjoy it too and the pumpkin puree will taste great in this creamer!
Pumpkin is such a versatile ingredient and can be used in both savory and sweet dishes. I typically prefer it in sweet baked goods and food of that nature. Some of my favorite foods to add pumpkin to are things like overnight oatmeal, quick breads and muffins! But I’m a recovering picky eater, so this might very well be the year I try it in a savory dish like soup. Which way do you prefer? What’s your favorite pumpkin recipe?

WHY MAKE HOMEMADE COFFEE CREAMER?
A big reason that I love cooking from scratch is that I can control the ingredients that go into my food and recipes. Conventional coffee creamer, while delicious, is chock full of sugar and other ingredients that I’d rather not start my day off with. This homemade pumpkin spice coffee creamer has wholesome ingredients, is sweetened with maple syrup and is customizable to your liking. I even have a dairy free option below if you prefer that!
Another reason to make your own coffee creamer is that it saves money. If you’re looking to cut out the daily coffee shop run, this is the perfect way to do it. You still get an amazing special treat at a fraction of the cost. Your wallet will thank you!
Lastly, making homemade coffee creamer allows you to customize a cup of coffee to your liking. You can add this creamer into hot or cold coffee, add more or less sweetener of choice, add in your favorite coffee syrups, top with whipped cream or whatever you enjoy! The possibilities are really endless! Even if you run out of pumpkin puree, you can still create a delicious creamer with the rest of the ingredients.
TOOLS YOU MAY NEED
- Saucepan
- Whisk
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Container with lid for storage
INGREDIENTS YOU’LL NEED
- 3/4 cup half & half
- 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream or evaporated milk
- 2 tbs maple syrup
- 1 tsp pumpkin puree
- 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon (optional)
HOW TO MAKE PUMPKIN SPICE COFFEE CREAMER
In a small saucepan, combine half & half, heavy whipping cream, maple syrup, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon, then whisk all ingredients to combine thoroughly.
Turn the stove burner to medium heat and allow the mixture to come to a low simmer, being sure to stir occasionally.
Once it comes to a simmer, remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the creamer cool for 5 to 10 minutes, then use the pumpkin spice creamer while it’s warm, or place it in the refrigerator in an airtight container to chill.
NOTES
- You can use homemade or store bought canned pumpkin puree. Be sure to use pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling.
- The pumpkin puree in this creamer may sink to the bottom as it sits in the refrigerator. Simply give it a nice shake before use and you should be good to go!
- This creamer pairs nicely with hot coffee or cold/iced coffee.
- Use the coffee creamer within one week of making it.
- Stir the creamer into your drink thoroughly to make it homogenous.
- If you find that the spices in this recipe give the creamer a texture you don’t like, simply omit the cinnamon.
- This recipe can be doubled or tripled if you’ve got a lot of coffee and pumpkin spice lovers in your home!
- If you want a thicker creamer, you can replace the half & half with heavy whipping cream instead. The rest of the recipe stays the same!
HOW TO USE HOMEMADE PUMPKIN SPICE COFFEE CREAMER
- Pour about 2-4 tablespoons of coffee creamer (more or less depending on how you take your coffee) into a cup of your favorite brewed coffee.
- Be sure to stir the creamer into your coffee thoroughly.
- Add in any additional syrups, sweeteners or toppings!

DAIRY FREE PUMPKIN SPICE COFFEE CREAMER
This pumpkin spice creamer can easily be made dairy free by substituting only a few ingredients. Note that depending on what substitutions are made, the end result may be a little thinner, but it should still taste great!
- Substitute half & half with any non-dairy milk. Thicker milks like cashew milk or oat milk will result in a thicker creamer. I prefer to use unsweetened non-dairy milk so that I can control the amount of sugar or sweetener, but feel free to use whatever you like the most!
- Substitute heavy whipping cream with full fat coconut cream or non-dairy heavy cream.
- Just like with the dairy version, you can use all of the non-dairy milk or all of the non-dairy creamer, it’s up to you and your preferences!
