Orange spiced sugar scrub combines the warm scents of cinnamon and allspice with the bright, fresh scent of sweet orange, making this perfect for fall! Not only is it exfoliating, but it’s moisturizing too. Show your skin some love with this sugar scrub!
Sugar scrubs are one of my favorite ways to exfoliate because not only are they effective, but they smell amazing and are really moisturizing too! Sugar scrubs work by removing dead skin cells, which means they can help to brighten dull, dry skin. The other great thing about sugar scrubs is that they’re really easy to make. Homemade sugar scrubs like my basic sugar scrub recipe or this brown sugar scrub only require 2-3 ingredients, making them extremely affordable. While this orange spiced sugar scrub does have a few more ingredients, it’s still just as affordable considering you probably have most, if not all, of the ingredients already in your kitchen!
I don’t know about you, but as soon as Labor Day is over, I’m in fall mode. Give me all the spiced things: pumpkin spice lattes, spiced apple pies and anything with cinnamon! If you too like all things fall, you’ll love this orange spiced sugar scrub! The cinnamon and allspice give this scrub a warm and cozy fall scent, while the orange is fresh and uplifting. It smells just like my favorite orange spiced sugar cookies! Sugar scrubs are a fantastic way to treat yourself and make great gifts as well. I’ve never met a person who would turn down a sugar scrub! With Christmas only a few months away, this would be an excellent idea for a homemade gift.

INGREDIENT BENEFITS
- ORGANIC CANE SUGAR: Sugar naturally draws moisture from its surroundings and can help to actually hydrate the skin. Sugar also contains glycolic acid, which helps to penetrate the skin and remove dead skin cells, thus encouraging more cell turnover. This results in healthier, brighter skin!
- SWEET ALMOND OIL: Sweet almond oil is one of the best moisturizing oils for the skin because it contains Vitamin E and Vitamin A, has anti-inflammatory properties and is full of antioxidants. It can help to repair the skin and reduce the appearance of scars, signs of aging and heal acne and sun damage. It also has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties.
- SWEET ORANGE ESSENTIAL OIL: Sweet orange essential oil has an uplifting scent that is said to help boost one’s mood and help with stress. It also has some antimicrobial properties, which can help with treating acne and other skin imperfections.
HOW TO MAKE ORANGE SPICED SUGAR SCRUB
INGREDIENTS
- Sugar (I used organic cane sugar)
- Sweet almond oil (see notes for alternatives)
- Cinnamon
- Allspice (or pumpkin pie spice)
- Vanilla extract
- Sweet orange essential oil
DIRECTIONS FOR MAKING DIY SUGAR SCRUB
- In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, sweet almond oil, cinnamon, allspice, vanilla extract and sweet orange essential oil until it’s well combined.
- Transfer the scrub into an airtight glass container (mason jars work great).
- Use the sugar scrub within six months!
HOW TO USE SUGAR SCRUB
- With clean hands, scoop out about a quarter size amount (or more) of your orange spiced sugar scrub and massage it gently onto the skin in circular motions.
- For added exfoliation, you can apply this using an exfoliating glove or brush.
- After massaging the sugar scrub for a minute or two, simply rinse off the sugar with warm water.
- You’ll be left with a layer of moisturizing oil that will help keep your skin soft!
NOTES
- I used organic cane sugar in this recipe, but any sugar you have on hand will do!
- If you’re using this sugar scrub on your face, white or brown sugar will be a better option because the granules are smaller and should be less irritating.
- If you don’t have sweet almond oil, you could use coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, et cetera.
- I like to use sweet orange essential oil in this recipe, but you can also substitute with about a tablespoon of orange peel powder or fresh orange zest. If you use fresh zest, be sure to use the sugar scrub within a week. I would also store it in the refrigerator.
- Applying sugar scrub can get messy, so I would suggest applying this in the shower or over a sink. Beware that the cinnamon and allspice may temporarily stain your skin and other surfaces.
- Cinnamon could be a skin irritant for some, so if you’re sensitive to cinnamon, you can omit it all together.
