Freshen your linens and upholstered furniture with this easy to make DIY fabric refresher spray and say goodbye to the store bought alternative!
As spring rapidly approaches, I find myself wanting to freshen up my home with beautiful fresh scents! One of my favorite ways is to use a linen spray, or DIY fabric refresher spray, to perk up my bed linens in between washes and refresh my upholstered furniture. Since I don’t have a clothesline, I love using this spray in conjunction with opening the windows and bringing fresh air into my home. The combination is the next best thing to freshly line dried linens and it’s absolutely delightful! This linen spray is also great if you’re looking for a homemade alternative to Febreze that doesn’t use fabric softener. I love to eliminate store bought cleaners and sprays where I can and this is one of them!

What is DIY fabric refresher spray?
Fabric refresher spray is used to neutralize odors in fabric and to leave a fresh scent. This works especially great for fabrics and surfaces that aren’t washed on a regular basis like upholstered furniture, rugs and carpets. It can also be used to sanitize fabrics as well, especially when the vodka is swapped out with rubbing alcohol.
Ingredients to Make Fabric Refresher Spray
- VODKA: Unflavored vodka helps to neutralize odors in your linens and upholstered furniture.
- ESSENTIAL OILS: Essential oils helps add a beautiful scent to linens and freshen up your home.
- DISTILLED WATER: It’s important to use distilled water or water that’s been boiled and cooled in your DIY linen fabric refresher spray to prevent bacteria that can occur when using tap water.
How do you use DIY fabric refresher spray?
This DIY fabric refresher spray can be used in so many applications! I love to use this spray on my bed sheets in between washes to give them a nice refresh, on my furniture to neutralize odors and even on carpets and rugs. You can also use this refresher spray in place of air freshening sprays.
Can I use rubbing alcohol to make linen spray?
You can use rubbing alcohol, or isopropyl alcohol, instead of vodka, especially if you’re looking for sanitizing fabrics. However, rubbing alcohol has an intense scent that can be hard to mask with essential oils, while vodka is virtually odorless. Another alternative would be to use witch hazel, like I use in my DIY room spray, which has a nicer smell than rubbing alcohol.
Which essential oils should I use?
I prefer nice, fresh scents in this linen spray, but you can use any combination you enjoy. Here are some of my favorites:
- Sweet Orange
- Lemon
- Lavender
- Peppermint
- Lemongrass
