For years now I’ve been making my own cocoa butter lip balm that is truly THE BEST lip balm I’ve ever used in my entire life. It’s super moisturizing and nourishing AND just feels good on the lips. You can make it either more like a gloss or a little thicker, which is what I prefer. I love making enough to last us the entire year, with a few leftover to share with friends and family. What I love about making homemade lip balm is that I know what ingredients are used. The recipe is made with cocoa butter, coconut oil, beeswax and a few other natural ingredients that all work together to really create an amazing lip balm. I feel comfortable using it on my kids and it’s a win all around.
And because I love my homemade lip balm so much, I decided it was time to make a homemade tinted lip balm too. I’m not one that loves to wear lip gloss or lipstick often, but I’m finding in this stage of life that I like a little color on my lips. My favorite hack up until this point, if you could even call it that, was to use a lip pencil to fill in my lips, then go over it with lip balm. And while I love the look that gives me, a much easier method is just to simply use a tinted balm, and that’s how this recipe came to be! It uses the same base lip balm recipe, with the addition of beetroot powder that gives the lips a beautiful color.

FAQs
What can you use to make natural tinted lip balm?
To make homemade lip balm naturally tinted or pigmented, there are several options depending on the shade you’d like to make. You can use beet root, strawberry powder, raspberry powder, pomegranate powder, or really any pigment in powder form that is natural and safe to use on the skin.
My homemade lip balm turned out gritty. What do I do?
If you get some lip balm that turned out a bit gritty, it could be because the beet root powder settled to the bottom while it was sitting in the bowl. To ensure even distribution and a smooth lip balm, I suggest stirring the liquid lip balm before you fill every tube or lip balm container.
How many tubes of lip balm does this recipe make?
This recipe makes enough for about 9 (0.15 oz) tubes of naturally tinted lip balm. If you prefer a more sustainable option you can use reusable glass or metal containers. If you want to make your lip balm look a bit more professional, add a cute label.

Ingredients
Beeswax: Beeswax helps create a protective barrier on the lips, helping to seal in moisture.
Cocoa Butter: Cocoa butter helps to repair and hydrate dry cracked lips.
Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is hydrating and has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties
Almond Oil: Sweet almond oil has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to hydrate skin and lips and helps retain the moisture too.
Beet Root Powder: Beet root powder is great to add as a supplement to your diet, but it also has a beautiful color that works great at tinting the lips.
Essential Oils: Essential oils aren’t necessary for this lip balm, but they can add a nice scent.
