Homemade body wash is made with simple and natural ingredients that help cleanse and nourish the skin. It’s easy to make and is totally customizable to fit your skin’s needs. Ditch your store-bought body wash and trade it in for this homemade body wash that’s cost effective and better for you!

Homemade body care products, like this body wash and my DIY Dry Shampoo, are so easy to make and are healthier for you and your family because you know exactly what ingredients they contain. This recipe only requires a few ingredients, and overall, it’s really inexpensive to make, around $3 to be more specific! The great thing about this body wash is that it can be customizable based on your skin type and scent preferences as well! If you’ve just begun your journey of removing toxins from your home, this homemade body wash is a great place to start!

NOTES

  • To cater to dry skin, add more fractionated coconut oil and/or sweet almond oil.
  • You can use all fractionated coconut oil, all sweet almond oil, or all of an oil you prefer as long as it’s liquid at room temperature.
  • Use distilled water, filtered water or water that you boil and then cool down before you add to your bottle.

SUPPLIES

  • Foaming soap dispenser
  • Distilled water
  • Castile soap
  • Fractionated coconut oil
  • Sweet almond oil
  • Vegetable glycerin
  • Essential oils (referral link)

ESSENTIAL OILS FOR THE SKIN

As I am not an expert on essential oils, I urge you to do your own research and choose oils that are high quality. It’s also important to test any new-to-you essential oils on your skin in a small patch to ensure you don’t have a reaction to them before use.

To scent this body wash, you can choose any combination of essential oils you enjoy! I really love to use peppermint and lemon essential oils because together they offer a great, refreshing scent. Below are some of the best oils for your skin and their benefits, if you’re curious on where to start. You can really use any combination you like, as long as the essential oil is safe to use on your skin! Also keep in mind that citrus oils are photosensitive. If you decide to use a citrus oil in your body wash, cover up or use sunscreen to avoid an increased risk for sunburn!

  • Lavender: Lavender is calming, anti-inflammatory and can help hydrate the skin.
  • Frankincense: Frankincense can be anti-aging and can help with sun damage, wrinkles and skin elasticity.
  • Tea Tree: Tea tree can help those with acne prone and oily skin.
  • Peppermint: Peppermint helps to cleanse the skin and offers a cooling sensation that aids in the reduction of inflammation and irritation.

HOW TO MAKE BODY WASH

In the foaming soap dispenser, add water, Castile soap, fractionated coconut oil, sweet almond oil, vegetable glycerin and essential oils. Add the top of the bottle and shake to mix! You’re ready to use your homemade body wash!

Oh my goodness. I love this!!! I wonder how this will work for babies. I’m sure much better than the commercial brands & less ingredients. I love making my own stuff. Thank you so much for sharing!

Thank you, Whitney! I use this on my kids who are 2 and 4 and you could absolutely use this on babies. I would just omit the essential oils, be sure you use castile soap specifically for babies (I use Dr. Bonner’s) and maybe add a little more almond or coconut oil for extra moisture!

I can’t wait to make this! I’ve been using natural bar soap as a cheaper alternative to natural, store-bought body wash. Truthfully, I prefer body wash, because it always seems less drying to my skin. This seems like just the answer…and so simple to throw together, too. Yay! Thanks, Arica! 🙂

May I ask please….I’m under the impression that when using water in a recipe, I have to use a preservative. Is this not so in your recipe? Sorry…new year’s here.

If you use distilled water or if you boil water and allow it to cool before putting it in there, you should be good!
