HOW TO MAKE HEART SHAPED CHERRY HAND PIES FROM SCRATCH
Tools You May Need
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Knife
- Food processor or pastry cutter
- Small mixing bowl
- Pastry brush
- Plastic wrap or beeswax wrap
- Heart shaped cookie cutter
- Large baking sheet
- Parchment paper
Ingredients for Homemade Pie Crust
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tbs granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 sticks cold butter, cubed
- 6-8 tbs ice water
- 1 egg (egg wash)

- 1/2 cup cherry jam
Ingredients for Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1-2 tbs milk or half and half
- 1 tbs cherry jam
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- Pinch salt
- Sprinkles (optional)
Directions for Making Cherry Hand Pies from Scratch
How to make pie crust from scratch
To a food processor, add flour, sugar and salt and pulse to mix.
Dice 2 sticks of cold butter and mix it into the flour mixture. The texture should resemble sand.
Slowly pour in the water 2-3 tablespoons at a time, just until a dough ball forms. Start with less water and allow the food process to work before adding more.
Cut the pie crust dough in half, form each half into a disk, then wrap them in plastic wrap or a beeswax wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours or overnight.
Once chilled, remove the pie crust dough from the refrigerator and allow it to sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
HOW TO MAKE heart shaped CHERRY HAND PIES FROM SCRATCH
Roll out the pie crust dough onto a lightly floured surface until it’s nice a thin, approximately 1/8 inch.
Use a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out an even amount of hearts.
Add 1 tsp of cherry jam in the center of a heart, then spread it, leaving an outer border.
Place another cut out heart over top and seal the edges with a fork.
Arrange the cherry hand pies onto a lined baking sheet or sheets, then place them in the fridge for 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes, preheat the oven to 350°F and brush the tops of the pies with an egg wash.
Bake the pies at 350°F for 22-24 minutes until they’re nice and golden brown.

Spread a teaspoon of the glaze on top of each hand pie, then add sprinkles (optional).
Notes
- Feel free to use store-bought pie dough in this recipe to make it even easier.
- It’s easy to change the flavor of these hand pies by switching up the jam.
- If the jam is too thick, add a little water to thin it out. You can also blend the jam to make it a smoother consistency.
- You can freeze these pies uncooked, then bake them when you want to . You just may need to increase the bake time.
