DIY acorn fall decor is not only super cute, but it’s also really inexpensive to make using dollar store items!
When it comes to decorating for each season, I tend to lean to the more minimal side of things. I really enjoy bringing in natural elements in the forms of flowers, dried pine needles, sticks and more, but it’s always minimal. However, it’s not always feasible to forage for those types of elements. So if you’re looking for an inexpensive way to bring the new season into your home this fall, the Dollar Tree is the place to start!
The Dollar Tree has evolved over the years and has some really great materials that can be used as a starting point to create absolutely stunning fall decor that rivals that of places like Hobby Lobby and Michaels. It’s also fun to use Dollar Tree items because you can really customize them to your style. I chose to go with a more rich toned color scheme for this project, but you could do the more subtle pastel route or really anything you want! These DIY acorns are super cute and fun to make. So grab a tasty beverage and let’s get to making some fall decor!

HOW TO MAKE DIY ACORN FALL DECOR
Start with a faux egg. I found these cute styrofoam eggs at the Dollar Tree, but you could use faux wooden eggs or old Easter eggs for this project. See notes if you use an Easter egg.
Turn the eggs upside down and paint the bottom 2/3 of the egg, or the tapered end. You’ll probably need at least two coats of paint.
Add a dab of hot glue to the bottom of the egg and attach the yarn. Then, begin wrapping the yarn around the egg. You may need to double over the yarn to fill in gaps.
Cut a piece of a small stick and attach it to the top of the acorn. If you’re using styrofoam eggs, you can push it into the egg.
Add these DIY acorns to a decorative bowl or use them in any way you see fit to decorate your home for fall!
NOTES
- If you use Easter eggs for this project, I recommend gluing them together, then priming and spray painting them. Acrylic paint will not stick to plastic.
- Do not use spray paint on styrofoam. It will cause the styrofoam to dissolve and will ruin it.
- Use whatever yarn you have on hand for this project. Chunky yarn will make this project go quicker.
- Instead of yarn, try gluing pine cone pieces for a more realistic effect.
