Beer bread without self-rising flour is a hearty bread made with a few simple ingredients that is great to serve with delicious dips or on a beautiful charcuterie board.
Growing up, Tastefully Simple was a big deal. My mom seemed to always have different Tastefully Simple dip mixes, spices and bread mixes. One of their famous mixes was their beer bread. My mom would often make the Tastefully Simple beer bread recipe and serve it with various dips or just as a special treat.
The great thing about beer bread is that it’s really simple to make and it produces a nice hearty bread that can be eaten plain, dipped in things or doctored up with cheese and various spices. It’s even great to use in place of regular bread when making grilled cheese sandwiches! Many recipes call for self-rising flour, and I don’t know about you, but that is not a staple in my pantry. However, it’s really easy to make this beer bread without self-rising flour. All you need to do is add in a few extra ingredients you most definitely have on hand!

HOW TO MAKE BEER BREAD WITHOUT SELF-RISING FLOUR
TOOLS YOU MAY NEED
- Medium mixing bowl
- Mixing spoon
- Microwave safe dish
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Parchment paper
- 9″ x 5″ loaf pan
INGREDIENTS
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tbs baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 12 oz light beer
- 4 tbs salted butter, melted
DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO MAKE BEER BREAD WITHOUT SELF-RISING FLOUR
In a medium mixing bowl, combine all purpose flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Stir in the light beer until just combined.
Pour the beer bread batter into a greased or lined loaf pan.
Pour the melted butter over top the batter.
Bake at 350°F for 1 hour or until the beer bread is nice and golden brown.
NOTES
- If you choose to use self-rising flour in this recipe, you’ll need 3 cups.
- This bread batter is very wet and more like a quick bread. Don’t add any extra flour or knead it.
- It’s best to use a light beer because it’s generally more carbonated and has a lighter taste than that of dark beer.
- If you prefer a softer outer crust, skip the melted butter.
