I’m a lover of mason jars. They serve as our drinking glasses, measuring cups, storage containers, you name it. Needless to say, they’re a staple in our home. Naturally as one collects mason jars, you also collect lids and rings as well. I’ve always used those lids when storing in the jars, but slowly have been replacing them with my favorite reusable lids, which left me with a bag full of mason jar lids. Long story short, I’ve been hanging onto a bag of mason jar lids for months in anticipation of this specific project!
There are so many variations of mason jar lid ornaments I’ve seen over the years, so I thought I’d add my spin on it. In this post, I outline three different style ornaments that have a more rustic flare. I also use really inexpensive materials, which makes this project even better! I’m a fan of using what you’ve got on hand and using materials in multiple applications, which is why I’ve incorporated the same materials in all three of these ornaments. When it comes to budget DIYs, I find you can really stretch your dollar and your materials when you use them in more than one way and for more than one project!
Another really great part of this DIY is that you can really customize these ornaments by using the materials you already have, or can find, and tailor them to your style. Check the notes to see some other materials I suggest using! Now, without further ado, let’s get into the tutorial!

HOW TO MAKE MASON JAR RING ORNAMENTS
Simple Rustic Twine Mason Jar Ring Ornament
Hot glue the end of a piece of twine to the inside of the mason jar ring.
Begin wrapping the twine around the ring, making sure each pass of the twine lays next to the previous one. Add a dab of hot glue periodically to ensure the twine is secure.
Once the entire ring is covered, cut the twine and secure the end with more hot glue.
Tie a piece of twine to the top of the ring so you can hang the ornament.
Lastly, add a bow to the bottom of the ring.
Now you’ve got a simple mason jar ring ornament with very minimal effort!
Faux Berry Mason Jar Ring Ornament
Cut the stems off (if necessary) of the faux berries. I got these at the Dollar Tree.
Hot glue the faux berries around the outside of the mason jar ring.
Cut a 1/2″ wide piece of crushed velvet fabric, or use a piece of ribbon, to create a bow. Hot glue the bow to the bottom of the ring. Depending on the size of the berries, there may be a gap, so use the bow to hide that gap.
Tie the same fabric or ribbon to the top of the ornament to hang the ornamenet.
This version of the mason jar ring ornament is super fast and so pretty!
Simple Velvet Mason Jar Ring Ornament
Cut a 1″ strip of crushed velvet fabric (or use velvet ribbon), then hot glue the end to the inside of the mason jar ring.
Simply wrap the fabric around the ring tightly, overlapping each section with the previous one.
Secure the end of the fabric with hot glue.
Tie a piece of twine to the top of the ornament to hang it.
Now you’ve got a really simple, yet beautiful ornament that matches the aesthetic of the other two ornaments!
NOTES
- There are many different variations of twine, including colored twine, that would look super cute on these ornaments!
- I prefer to use regular mouth mason jar lids for this project because they’re smaller and take less time to complete, but you can use wide mouth jar lids as well!
- If you can find velvet fabric or ribbon, try using velvet yarn to get a similar fact!
- If you have the jar lids as well, try covering the lid in fabric, then hot gluing it to the lid to make a super cute ornament.
