FAQs
What is peppermint simple syrup?
Simple syrup is simply a mixture of equal parts water and sugar, where the sugar has fully dissolved into the water. It’s used to sweeten drinks like coffees, teas, cocktails, hot chocolate and more. What’s great about a simple syrup is that it’s virtually flavorless, which means it can be flavored any way you please, including with a delicious peppermint extract, making a from-scratch homemade peppermint simple syrup.
How do you use peppermint simple syrup?
As mentioned before, you can use peppermint simple syrup for your coffee, hot chocolates and holiday cocktails. You can also use it to add moisture in between the layers of cakes and other desserts. For drinks like a peppermint mocha coffee, use about 1 tbs of peppermint coffee syrup, or more if desired, and some homemade chocolate sauce, paired with your favorite coffee and boom, you’ve got a homemade peppermint mocha that’s absolutely delicious and a fraction of the cost of one from the coffee shop.
How do you store peppermint coffee syrup?
Store your peppermint coffee syrup in an airtight glass jar or container in the refrigerator for up to a month!
Ingredients
Granulated Sugar: I like to use cane sugar for this recipe, but any granulated sugar will work.
Water: I prefer to use filtered water in my recipes for many reasons, including the reduction in fluoride, chlorine and other contaminants. It also helps the peppermint syrup stay fresher, longer.
Peppermint Extract: Make sure to use peppermint extract and not mint extract in this recipe. Mint extract is a combination of spearmint and peppermint, so it will alter the taste of the end result if used.
