Learn how to make peanut butter with just peanuts that is 100% natural, absolutely delicious and perfectly spreadable.

Over the years, and especially recently, I’ve learned a lot about nutrition. And while I’m not an expert, it’s allowed me to really assess and focus on the foods my family and I eat. And since as a homemaker, I take on the majority of the cooking and grocery shopping, I feel it’s my duty to provide my family with the best foods I can on our budget. So I’ll admit that high quality natural peanut butter really isn’t into the budget. For the amount of peanut butter our family goes through, I can’t justify spending $5-$6 per little jar of peanut butter that would only last a week to 10 days.
So, I’ve been buying peanut butter in bulk from my local wholesale place and felt content about. That is until I started looking into the sugar content of our food. And while 3 grams of sugar per 2 tbs serving isn’t the worst, it’s definitely a place where I felt it wasn’t necessary. That’s when I discovered how easy it is to make homemade peanut butter with just peanuts. How crazy is that? No added oils, no unnecessary added sugar, just peanuts. So, if you’ve got access to peanuts and a high powered blender or food processor, then let’s get to making some natural homemade peanut butter!

FAQs
What are the best peanuts for making homemade peanut butter?
You can really use any type of peanuts to make peanut butter, but there are varieties that are more suited to making peanut butter like Spanish peanuts, which have a higher oil content. If you live in an area where peanuts are grown and sold, then it will be a lot easier to find them at local farms or farmer’s markets. However, most of us don’t have access to fresh, locally sourced peanuts, so the next best thing is peanuts that are still in their shells. These peanuts will be fresher than ones that have already been shelled. However, the process of shelling peanuts is long and boring, so if you’re not into that, pre-shelled peanuts will work great too. I prefer to use dry roasted salted peanuts to make peanut butter, but you can use unsalted too.
How do I make my homemade peanut butter creamier?
If after you make your own peanut butter, you’re not in love with the texture or wish it was creamier, you can add in some oil. Your choice of oil is up to you, but some nice options would be peanut oil or an oil with a light flavor like avocado oil.
How long will homemade peanut butter last?
Peanut butter will last up to a month in the refrigerator, since it lacks any preservatives. That’s why it’s nice to make it in small quantities like this recipe!
Is it cheaper to make your own peanut butter than to buy it?
In short, it depends. If you’re making the switch from buying the more expensive, higher quality peanut butter that can run nearly $7 per jar, then yes, making your own is cheaper. However, if you’re going from buying store brand peanut butter to making your own, it’s not necessarily cheaper. That being said, I think from a health aspect, it’s the better option, especially when it comes to reducing the amount of sugar and potentially inflammatory oils. And if nothing else, at least you know how to make peanut butter in case you ever are in a pinch.
