Honey biscuits are made with simple ingredients and a touch of honey, making them perfectly and subtly sweet. They pair perfectly with jam or some homemade apple butter.
If you’re looking for a fun twist on the classic baking powder biscuit, then this recipe is for you! These honey biscuits incorporate, you guessed it, honey and hefty amount of butter. These honey biscuits are subtly sweet, rich and have a soft inside and crunchy outside. The texture is similar to the pull apart biscuits you can get at the store in a tube, but with so much more flavor. They’re great to eat on their own, but even better slathered in homemade jam or apple butter.

What is the trick to making biscuits?
There are a few tricks to making the best homemade biscuits from scratch:
- Use ice cold butter and milk. Why do you need cold butter for biscuits? The reason is that when you bake your biscuits, the butter starts to melt and create steam, which them gives your biscuits a wonderful soft texture.
- Don’t use a rolling pin, instead gently press the dough with your hands and fold it over itself to create that pull apart affect. It also helps give a better rise to your biscuits. The more you knead and mess with the dough, the tougher they will be.
- Bake homemade biscuits at a high temperature to help the water in the butter and the milk rapidly evaporate, giving your biscuits, again, a nicer fluffy texture.
How do you store homemade biscuits?
Store your homemade honey biscuits in an airtight container for up to two days, the refrigerator for a week or in the freezer for up to three months. If you plan on freezing your biscuits, make sure they are sealed properly to avoid freezer burn.

DIRECTIONS FOR HOW TO MAKE HONEY BISCUITS
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt.
Cube a stick of cold butter or grate it into the flour mixture.
Mix the butter into the flour with your hands or a pastry cutter until you reach a sandy-like texture.
Add honey and milk and mix with a fork until just combined.
Place the honey biscuit dough onto a well-floured surface and flatten the dough with your hands into a square.
Fold the dough in half and press down gently with your hands, then fold in half again. Repeat the above two steps 3-4 more times then flatten once more with your hands and cut out the biscuits with a biscuit cutter or cup.
Place the biscuits on a lined baking sheet and bake at 425°F for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
Brush the tops of the biscuits with the honey and butter mixture and allow to cool slightly before enjoying!
NOTES
- Use cold butter directly from the refrigerator. This helps to get the best texture for your honey biscuits.
- Instead of cubing the butter, try grating it with a cheese grater!
- Do not use a rolling pin to roll out the biscuits. Instead, as instructed above, gently press the dough with your hands. Over kneading will result in tougher biscuits.
- Store these biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
