Homemade pizza dough uses simple ingredients to create a light and flavorful base for your favorite pizza!
When I started my transition to making more food from scratch instead of buying pre-made, one of the first things I learned how to do was make my own homemade pizza dough. This is a recipe I have been making for close to a decade and it’s a hit every time! This pizza dough recipe is simple, straight-forward and only requires a handful of ingredients that you probably already have on hand.
Even better, it’s super versatile and can make so many other recipes. A few we really like in our home are stromboli and calzones. You could also make breadsticks and so much more in addition to homemade pizza crust. I also really love that you can make this ahead of time and freeze it so you always have fresh pizza dough on hand!

DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE PIZZA DOUGH
In the bowl of a stand mixer, add warm water (approximately 100°F) and sugar. Then sprinkle dry active yeast on top and let it sit for 5 minutes or until it’s nice and bubbly.
Add in the olive oil, all purpose flour and salt, then knead with the dough hook attachment for 3-5 minutes or until the dough is pliable and no longer sticky. If you need to, add flour a little at a time if it’s too sticky.
Shape the homemade pizza dough into a ball, coat in a bit of olive oil, then cover and allow to rise for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
Punch the pizza dough down, knead it by hand a few times, then roll it out and use it to make pizza, flat bread, calzones, stromboli, bread sticks and more!
For pizza, bake it at 425°F for 17-20 minutes.
NOTES
- I like to measure my water out into a mason jar, then heat it in the microwave for 40 seconds. This works well every time.
- Make this pizza dough ahead of time, then freeze it so you have it on hand whenever you’re ready to make pizza!
- Elevate this homemade pizza dough by adding in herbs, garlic and more!
